Explain what counts as CS to help students realize that they are learning CS.

Volunteers: Defer to the teacher to be consistent with classroom norms.

Volunteers: Stay quiet during announcements to model respect for the teacher.

Move to students' eye-level to connect with students as equals.

Re-introduce yourself to students to minimize the imbalance in power.

Stay positive and regularly reassure students that you have confidence in their abilities.

Combat stereotypes about computer science and computer scientists. This shows students that, regardless of their personality or other hobbies outside of CS, they could become computer scientists too!

Encourage asking peers questions to encourage collaboration and minimize roadblocks.

Establish a gallery of current and past projects to motivate students and to build community as students get to show off their work.

Set the default homepage to enable students to get started quickly.
