  • Given the easy access to Computer Science resources outside of the classroom, students may feel intimidated by those that are already knowledgeable of course content.
  • Tell students that learning is a process, and even though people may be at different stages in the process, everyone is going in the same direction.

Adjust all assignments to be a certain length in order to create and maintain consistent deadlines (e.g., weekly) so students remember when their homework is due.
Remind students that you’re there to help them, especially when students apologize for asking a question.
Give students a fully functional program on Day 1 that they will incrementally add features to as you cover content throughout the semester to engage them by satisfying their desire for creating working code.
