Tell students they should only give instructions when helping other students - rather than demonstrating with the keyboard and mouse - because showing instead of telling other students can cause a variety of problems.

  • Students are often eager to show each other how to accomplish tasks on the computer, but showing their partner how to do the task with the keyboard and mouse is not the best option!
  • Taking the keyboard and mouse might be problematic because:
    • It can send the message to the student that they wouldn’t be capable of doing the task themselves.
    • It can deprive the student of the opportunity of experiencing the task at a pace that is comfortable for them.
Don't touch the keyboard or mouse when helping others debug
