Situate projects in your students interests and the real world.

  • Look for ways to connect the material to your students lives.
  • Having a context for what they’re doing is so important. Give students a reason, it makes a huge difference in engagement:
  • If they’re working on a made-up case study, find a way to connect it to everyday life.
  • If they’re working on an actual problem, encase it in its real world context.
  • Engage students with current news topics in computer science.
    • Students can find their own news articles on school-safe websites like npr.org.
    • Seeing the current progress in the field will give classroom lessons context and inspire students by exposing them to the possibilities of computer science.
