  • Schedule time to meet with students and discuss their performance, their time management strategies, and how they can improve.
  • Write personalized notes to each student. 2-3 sentences can go a long way.
  • If you find the note creation process too time consuming, consider writing a script that personalizes notes or emails based on parameters such as scores and class participation.

Follow up the question “How are you?” with asking your students deeper questions, like “How’s your stress level?”, to show you care and to dig below the surface-level small talk when you bump into your students.
Remind students that each problem relies on a specific set of knowledge; not understanding a particular problem doesn't mean they’re stupid, it’s an opportunity to work hard and learn more.
Pay attention to student questions to get a sense of what topics students are struggling with and adjust your lectures accordingly.
