Misconception: Students think that “turn” blocks in Scratch imply a change in position within the coordinate plane.

  • To show them that this is not true, use a Simon Says activity—when students just turn in place, their position doesn’t change.
    • "Turn" blocks in Scratch simply cause the sprite to rotate right or left a certain number of degrees.

Support students until they are proficient with content from the beginning of the course as subsequent content will be all the more difficult to learn without mastery of prior content, particularly in introductory CS courses.
