  • When the sprite is large, it takes up too much of the stage and makes it difficult to include obstacles in a game.
  • For example, students can use the resize button to make the helicopter on the left the size of the helicopter on the right.
  • Larger helicopter on the left and smaller helicopter on the right

Standard tutorials have too much information to be appropriate in introductory courses; try using excerpts from them or creating your own.
Encourage students to use blocks instead of the user interface when orienting the sprite in Scratch.
Demonstrate manipulating primitives with operators before manipulating them with methods so students can understand the basics of primitives before using them in a more complicated way.
