Use familiar language and explicitly define new terms whenever possible to make sure all students, especially those with non-English first languages, understand the concepts you are describing.
Remind students that each problem relies on a specific set of knowledge; not understanding a particular problem doesn't mean they’re stupid, it’s an opportunity to work hard and learn more.
To engage a wider range of students in intro courses, be sure to highlight the real-world context and applications of CS.
