Ask students how they are doing on assignments to keep them accountable and identify unproductive students when necessary.

  • If you have access to iClickers, consider polling your students during class to gauge how far into an assignment they are.

Allow students to resubmit their first few assignments for the course so they can master basic concepts and be rewarded for their persistence.
If students are expected to compile portfolios of their work, make sure to begin this process early in the course.
Allocate the last 15 minutes of class for students to share their work with each other in beginning Scratch classes because students enjoy seeing each others projects and demonstrating their progress.
