Encourage students by reminding them that they can become great at computer science through hard work, even if they’ve gotten a 1 or a score lower than they’re comfortable with on the AP test, or if they are not currently a star student.
Select analogies and examples of content that are as gender-, class-, and nationality-neutral as possible to avoid alienating and further confusing students of different backgrounds.
Take any start-of-semester survey you give your students to show you won’t ask them questions you wouldn’t answer yourself.
