Try to understand what your students don’t understand to better scaffold their learning.

Goal:
  • Ensure students receive good scaffolding when learning course content.
Reason:
  • It can be easy to fall into the expert trap, which makes it hard to understand where your students are coming from. This is a great opportunity to improve course instruction.
Action:
  • Analyze quiz and homework responses to see where students’ misunderstanding are.
    • If you use a educational technology, like Moodle, where you can assign work that gets automatically graded, assess the answer statistics to better understand which areas students need more scaffolding on.
