Give students an accurate sense of their own understanding by requiring them to revise and elaborate answers or work that are nearly—but not entirely—correct.
Reassure students that it’s okay if they don’t initially understand a concept in order to motivate them to keep trying.
Take the time to encourage girls and students of color and tell them that academic abilities can expand and improve, as they often internalize cultural expectations that they have little innate CS ability.
