Give students a set number of late homework passes so they can give themselves extensions and hold themselves accountable for deadlines.

  • Late passes can be physical or virtual tokens used by students to grant themselves a single-day extension.
    • This strategy also removes "my dog ate my homework" types of excuses.

Follow up the question “How are you?” with asking your students deeper questions, like “How’s your stress level?”, to show you care and to dig below the surface-level small talk when you bump into your students.
