Connect search to students’ experience with Ctrl+F or Find in various applications after they’ve written code for a search algorithm to help them understand the value of this concept in their daily lives.

  • Activity:
    • Have students write code to search through a list.
    • Ask students if they’ve ever worked a computer program that did searching. (Usually students will say they haven’t!)
    • Ask students if they’ve used Ctrl+F or "Find" in many programs.(Usually the answer is yes!)
    • Help students see how the code they are writing relates to everyday experiences.
