Dedicate yourself to undergraduate students’ success from start to finish; be prepared to respond to students’ fears, tears, and triumphs.

  • Be passionate about your student’s trajectory, whether graduate school or industry work, it’s incredibly rewarding to invest in your student’s journey.
  • The road to success is rarely clear. As such it’s incredibly important to be willing to listen to the concerns of the students.
  • Take time to encourage your students’ investment and hard work.
  • If a student starts crying in your office, calmly pass them a kleenex and tell them not to worry about crying. It’s okay to cry, it happens all the time. Then, make sure to keep the conversation going.
